mcastu
Okay, after much frustration (possibly because it's 3:30AM), my mcastu comp is live and complete with one measly link that works. That would be the e-mail link, by the way. I just made screenshots of the comps I created in Illustrator and used Dreamweaver to link the PNGs by image mapping. Definitely faaaaaar from perfect, but 'tis a work in progress.

Rust_Map
I re-shot all my Rust Hall images and organized them into the grid that we talked about in class. (This was so much easier than the first time!) Also took this opportunity to hone my batch processing skills. I'm probably going to create a completely new version of the site rather than editing version 1.

Sitemap_mcastudent.org
This is my refined sitemap for the student site. After reviewing all the possible features the site should house, these seemed to be the most useful. Shumyla, Andrew and I plan to collaborate on the comps this week, and we will most likely pool our thoughts on Monday/Tuesday, so this will most likely change again.

Progress
Image-only site is going well, but a more daunting task than I'd hoped.
Once I had edited my images and created a style sheet, I thought surely I'd be half done, but linking has by far been the most time-consuming and confusing. I'm still not completely finished linking everything together, but I have a major chunk of it running smoothly.
So far I have 25 html pages and roughly 30 images. Nearly as many pages as images, and each contains 4 links that should eventually lead the viewer through the entire map. My head aches! But it's been fun. So far I'm pleased with the results. Here's an example of one of the pages:

Week06_Refined Concept
This website will be an interactive image map of Rust Hall—the extremely disorienting main building of Memphis College of Art. It is intended to be a visual reference for anyone associated with the school.
To create this map, corridors and entrances to rooms will be digitally photographed, and these images will be linked together and displayed in a way that allows viewers to "virtually" travel through the school at their own pace.
Below are some thumbnails* of a basic layout idea. The image grid (Thumbnail_01) will be the main page, and each image can be clicked, leading to a page that will resemble Thumbnail_02. (Directional arrows are only included in the thumbnail to illustrate direction; images alone should suggest navigation on the final site.)

*I will include a new version of the thumbnails after the actual images have been captured.

Week05_Assignment2
I'd like to create an image based website that gives viewers directions to a specific location through a series of images. The directions could be as simple as traveling from my bedroom to school, or they could involve traveling from one end of town to the other. Each image would be a visual cue (a blue building, a street or business sign, a funny shaped tree, etc.) that would lead one step closer to the destination.
When the website loaded, a simple layout with only one image (approximately 400x300pxi) would appear, and clicking the image would lead to the next one in the series.

Week05_Assignment1
The concept model for my personal website consists primarily of information that would be of interest to potential employers or artists. I also want to create an online portfolio that my family and friends can easily access, because I rarely have a way to show them my work when they ask about it.
P.S. This model is also cool because it ended up taking on the shape of a weird looking car.

Week01_Surfing
Three websites I consider to be well designed:
01] White Stripes
03] Camille Seaman
01] White Stripes
- interactive
- playful, but still easy to navigate
- great layout/color scheme
- option at entrance to view high or low bandwidth version
- lots of information organized and compacted in a successful manner
- clearly marked links/buttons
- aesthetic resembles that of the actual printed periodical
03] Camille Seaman
- a little lag in load time, and not as simple to navigate, BUT...
- easy to view the artist's images
- good descriptions
- beautiful layout/design
